It’s finally here. The best time of the year. The NHL Playoffs.
This year’s playoff pool is shaping up to be an absolute wagon. And the beauty of the NHL playoffs? It’s the only major sport where every team getting in has a legit shot to win it all.
So without further ado, here is my annual:

The Buffalo Sabres have shocked the hockey world this year—catching fire mid-season, cracking 100 points for the first time since 2010, and taking the Atlantic Division. Their offense is electric, and they move the puck as well as anyone in the league. That firepower is going to be a serious problem for opponents.
The Boston Bruins, meanwhile, weren’t even supposed to be here. A “rebuild year” turned into a playoff push thanks to guys stepping up and the team finding its identity at the perfect time. They’ve got veterans, structure, and just enough talent to make things interesting.
Prediction: Bruins make it a dogfight, but Buffalo gets it done.

Battle of Pennsylvania.
It’s been a minute for both teams—Pittsburgh hasn’t seen playoff hockey since 2022, and Philly hasn’t been back since the bubble. Both squads finished with 98 points, but the Penguins grabbed home ice with more regulation wins.
The Flyers are young, fast, and fun. Rookie Porter Martone has already made an impact with 10+ points since his late March debut, giving their offense a real spark.
But when it comes to playoff hockey, experience matters. And having Sidney Crosby on your side doesn’t hurt.
Prediction: Youth pushes it, but experience closes it.

This one’s already got bad blood.
These teams played just over a week ago and it was chaos—scrums after every whistle, big hits, fights…you name it. Safe to say there’s zero love lost here.
Montreal is loaded with young talent, led by 50-goal scorer Cole Caufield. Between Slafkovský, Hutson, and Demidov, the future is very bright.
But Tampa? Still Tampa.
Nikita Kucherov is putting up absurd numbers, trailing only Connor McDavid in total points—while playing fewer games. If he keeps rolling, and guys like Point, Hagel, and Andrei Vasilevskiy show up, this team is a legit Cup threat.
Prediction: Tight, chippy, probably a few OT games…

Honestly? This feels like a Western Conference Final matchup…in Round 1. Thanks, playoff format.
Dallas is as complete as it gets—depth up front, solid defense, and elite goaltending. They’ve been knocking on the door for years.
Minnesota is no joke either. High-end offensive talent and the addition of Quinn Hughes in December gives them even more firepower. This is not a team that rolls over.
At the end of the day though…playoff hockey comes down to goaltending.

Give me the Utah Mammoth vs. the Carolina Hurricanes.
And yeah…I’m riding with Carolina. Utah is built like a playoff team, but they are going to be like 2023 Panthers, where injuries catch up to them, and they run out of steam.
Hurricanes in 5.
